Jewel Quest Review (mobile) By Miranda Stites Published: 01/03/07 PrintEmail
Jewel Quest is a match em’ up puzzle game of sorts. It requires that you get three artifacts that are alike in either a horizontal or a vertical line. Each square that you get matched up then turns gold indicating that you accomplished a match for that particular square on the board. Once the board has turned all gold that level has been completed and you move on to a harder stage.
Each board gets progressively harder in unique ways; therefore a different strategy is required depending on the dilemma presented. Level one has five different stages, level two has six, and so on until level five which has ten stages. In this first set of five levels the dilemma presented is nearly inaccessible nooks which makes it hard to match up a total of three artifacts. The strategy that I use for this section is to focus on the nooks first and ignore the rest of the board if possible.
After you have completed all ten stages in level five the game repeats, but with a different dilemma. Now you are presented with fragments of artifacts that cannot be moved until you match up artifacts around them. After you do this they then become whole and must be matched up a second time in order to turn the square gold. You are also presented with little nooks that make it hard in a similar fashion as the first five levels were. Again once you complete all ten stages in level five the game repeats with a new dilemma. I think you get the point.
If you take too long between moves the screen will light up a possibility for you to use. This helps out a little in a jam, but mostly it just gets annoying. Also if you don’t pass the level in a certain amount of turns you are given the option to lose a turn in exchange for progressing to the next stage. In my opinion this makes the game far too easy and it is quite unnecessary.
Overall it is a sound game and enjoyable for puzzle fans, but there are far more fun games available in this genre. The upside is the game is cheap, but the downside is why spend the cash on this when there are better games available for the same price.
