WoW: Cataclysm New Races (BlizzCon 2009) (PC) By Richard Stites Published: 08/21/09 PrintEmail
Today at the opening ceremony of BlizzCon 2009 the next World of Warcraft expansion was given a name, and the new races were revealed.
The new expansion is Cataclysm, and focuses on world changing events. But for now lets focus on the two new playable races, the Goblins and the Worgen.
My new favorite race in WoW is indeed the Worgen who have joined the ranks of the Alliance. The Worgen have been locked behind the Greymane Wall, and have revealed themselves to the world due to being attacked by the Forsaken, and the events of Cataclysm.
The Worgen have two forms that you can switch freely between, their Worgen (or warewolf) form and their human form. In fact the ability to change form is one of their racial abilities. Their other two racial abilities are Darkfkight which is a dash ability currently on a two minute cooldown, and a racial passive ability which gives them a 1% attack bonus.
Currently Worgen can be warriors, hunters, rogues, priests, warlocks, mages and druids.
The Goblins will be the newest addition to the Horde, and can be warriors, hunters, rogues, priests, shaman, warlocks, and mages. This new Goblin Cartel starts off as nuetral, but as their story unfolds events lead to them joining the Horde.
Goblins have two nifty racial abilities and one racial passive ability. Time is Money is their passive ability which gives them a 1% attack and casting speed increase. Their other two abilities are Rocket Jump and Rocket Barrage, which pretty much speak for themselves.
Both new starting areas will make use of Blizzards phasing, and will help progress the story much as we saw in WotLK with the Death Knight starting area.
I must admit that although this was an expected addition to WoW, for me at least, I am really looking forward to Cataclysm much more than I was looking forward to WotLK. Now only if I could roll a Worgen Shaman I'd be set.
